Edinburgh Festivals provide film backdrop

The Edinburgh Festivals provide the backdrop for a film going into production during this year's festival. Titled "Festival" the movie by Annie Griffin (who wrote Channel 4's The Book Group) is being backed by Channel 4, Pathe and Scottish Screen.

The feature film will follow a group of disparate fictional performers who come to the Scottish capital seeking fame and fortune during the world’s greatest arts festival.

Shooting will take place entirely on location in Edinburgh, with scenes in the Royal Mile and at actual festival venues, including the Assembly Rooms, the Pleasance and Jongleurs.

"It’s the most spectacular city in Europe," said Griffin at the film’s temporary production offices in Granton. "It’s got a castle and a mountain in the middle of it. Why have I never seen a film about Edinburgh?"
