Blogging as a full time job

Jason of Kottke.org pseudo-fame has announced that he is to become a full time blogger. To pay for it (he's quit his web design job) he is launching a one time "fund drive" for three weeks. I know that some other bloggers, e.g. Andrew Sullivan, have successfully raised decent amounts of cash in this manner - it'll be interesting to see how it works out for Jason. Kottke.org won't be accepting advertising though, he thinks it will disrupt the dynamic.

I hope this will work out well, Jason has built a readership (following?) by finding and creating content which gives his site value as a long term subscription. I've changed my favourite newspaper three times during the time I've been reading kottke daily.
