Ukraine, Poland, and a free world

This is the individual entry page of a 'link' from my linkblog which are featured alonside regular blog entries on the An Oasis Homepage. It doesn't pretend to hold substantive content, merely it is a pointer to substantive content elsewhere on the web.

Read Ukraine, Poland, and a free world
"The guiding theme of European politics will be stability – but stability sought through democratic change. This will cause chagrin in Berlin and Paris, panic in Moscow, and gloom among their camp–followers. But the people of Ukraine have re–entered history on their own terms, and will not turn back. Thanks to them, and with a little help from their Polish friends, the geopolitical tide in Europe may have turned for years to come."

What happens if after the elections are concluded Yuschenko wins and the east rises up?
Will there again be mediations to anull the elections and start on the re-vote for yet another time? My guess is no, those people will be expected to fall into line and their choice ignored because that was not a popular choice by the west. When they seperate and they will shock and disdain will occur. This however will be better then half the country subjugating the other half for their whim and prosperity. It could have been prevented if they had been reached out towards and given promises like: yes russian will become the 2nd official language, yes the schools will not be changed and education will not be marginalize, yes the profit a region produced will not go to another to subsidize its living. But this did not occur, what did occur was jubilation, waving of the orange flag, and ignorance.
