Olympic Medals for Everyone

From the Scotsman one day last week, Why we still have reasons to be cheerful by Katie Grant.

There was I yesterday bemoaning Britain’s inability to come top of anything any more when my 14-year-old daughter came to tell me that Urska Solnir of Slovenia had won a bronze in the 63kg judo. My heart sank. I know nothing about judo but assumed this meant another British disappointment. "Not at all," cried the daughter. She was thrilled because Urska’s success means that no country will now be going home without a medal. That, to her, should mean general rejoicing and even as I watched our equestrian team’s dreams of gold diminish, I found myself strangely comforted by this novel but admirable attitude.

It's a nice sentiment, but not true I think. So far at least.
