Let Freedom Reign

GWB: Let Freedom Reign

Condoleeza Rice: Mr. President, Iraq is sovereign. Letter was passed from Bremner at 10:26 AM Iraq time -- Condi
George W. Bush: Let Freedom reign!

"Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world. Let freedom reign." - Nelson Mandela Inaugural Address, May 10 1994.

Comparable events? It interests me that GWB quotes Mandela with such abandon and that such a move will play to the galleries at home whilst making the remaining 95.17% of the world roll their eyes. Perhaps the time is not yet upon us when such a statement can be seen as anything other than political spin. Sovereignty is one thing but can a 'sovereign' government without a monopoly of the use of force be said to be 'in power'?
