Yahoo! buying Overture for $1.63Billion

, Tech , Web Search

The ever changing search engine landscape sees an announcement today that Yahoo is to buy Overture for $1.63 billion. As well as bringing the Overture PPC engine into the Yahoo! fold, this move gives Yahoo! the Fast & AV algo's (Yahoo! already owns Inktomi).

This basically leaves Google & Yahoo! running the search game, and Y! even has a small piece of G. MSN is relying on Yahoo! properties (Overture, Inktomi) until such time as it has a viable offering of its own (it's own MSNbot is doing the rounds however), whether through continued development or acquisition. If they had wanted to acquire tho' then they could have by now barely noticing a dent in the bank balance.

Update: ResearchBuzz has a run through of the players.
