TV Picks of the Year (so far)

Reality TV

I happened to have not bothered to move yet after watching the Ch.4 News tonight and the most fantastic programme came on - The Dinner Party Inspectors. This is truly British reality TV at its apex - Victoria Mather & Meredith Etherington Smith (two rather twee ladies in their prime) scrutinise a real life dinner party as it happens and comment on etiquette, culinary finesse, table manners, guest interaction and table conversation.

Tonight's episode was a dinner party in a Caravan with an odd assortment of people pulled together for an unexpectedly good 'do'. After serving the main course the host invited his guests to "dig in" leading Victoria and Meredeth to patronise beautifully when musing, "that's caravanese for 'do start'"!

Drama

And how fantastic is Spooks? Last nights episode turned it into a "can only be missed if something very very serious happens" show.

It's kinda predictable that I would like this because it is similar to The West Wing in some respects. It is a drama based in MI5 (the Security Service) and follows the trials and tribulations of Tom Quinn and his team.

Can't wait until this comes out on DVD so I can recap on the episodes I watched but didn't take as seriously as I should have!
