Pay by phone for parking in Edinburgh

People who park in Edinburgh will soon be able to use their mobile phone to pay & display according to The Register. itsmobile, a Dublin based company who reassuringly have a broken web site, have sold their "innovative new system" to Edinburgh city council so that there's less cash in the system and to stem the losses from people nicking parking meters.

Probably related is the fact that all the parking meters here have recently been upgraded to bizarre looking gizmos featuring solar power panels and resplendent in a deeper shade of grey.

I'm convinced (someone should do a survey) that Edinburgh has more parking attendants than any other city anywhere in the world. They are everywhere all at the same time, or hiding round a corner ready to lunge. I wonder if their clever little system can alert traffic wardens (with their little handheld computers) of deviations from the norm, highlighting a potential street rich in pickings.

There seems to be a history of false promises made by the company in the past. I has been doing a little research on mPARK / ItsMobile as an MBA student and have put a few facts down at http://www.itsmobile.co.uk
